Why become a member of a CSA?
Well the obvious benefit of being a member of a CSA is the fact that once a week you receive a box delivered to your door filled with wonderful fresh organic produce. Last weeks box contained melons, tomatillos, green beans, strawberries, savoy cabbage, carrots, tomatoes – brandywine pink, heirloom & cherry.
Then to top it all off we received an email telling us that as members we could come up and pick strawberries for $1 per pound………….WOW what a steal. $1 per pound for local organic strawberries, count me in. I have made two trips to the farm with my son and both days we picked 25 pounds of strawberries in under 45 minutes. So you ask Lisa what the heck are you going to do with 50 pounds of strawberries? Well let me tell you. I have bagged almost all of the berries and they are now sitting in my freezer waiting for us to enjoy them in our morning smooties this fall and winter. We will also be able to enjoy them in our breakfast scones.
I am thrilled to be a member of our CSA – http://www.coopersfarm.ca/ and I encourage anyone who has thought that this is something that they would be interested in to check them out and give it a try…………….Don’t forget to tell them Lisa sent you.
The pictures above speak for themselves. I mean look at those strawberries, can’t you just taste them now?
FYI – Strawberries are a good source of vitamins A and C, beta-carotene, folic acid and potassium. They’re also anticancer, antiviral and antibacterial.
